If your wondering what style of photography would suit your wedding, here's a little info on how reportage photography can give a really natural look to your wedding images, and bring out the real emotions of the day. Claire of Poppy K Photography tells us more... There are so many styles of wedding photography, it must be hard to know where to start! Let me tell you how I approach weddings and why I love the reportage style.......... Reportage, or documentary photography as it is also known, means capturing real moments as they happen. Reportage wedding photographers become part of your wedding and capture all the moments as they naturally unfold. I observe your wedding day, your guests, interactions, moments about to unfold and I am constantly aiming to capture things as they occur. I blend into your wedding, becoming more like a guest than 'the photographer'. This is great as people do not feel awkward and they don't behave in a different way when they see me! When you look back at your wedding photographs, reportage style images will tell you the story of your day. The images capture true emotion, love, laughter and real moments. Reportage photography captures people at ease, relaxed, having fun and enjoying themselves- showing true personalities. Looking back at these images will spark real emotion in you, you will remember how you felt, you will smile as you remember what you were laughing at, or the images might make you well up at the emotion shown in them. When people book me, they always say they love the natural style of my photographs. People don't look posed or awkward. I get asked if I will still take a few more formal, family shots- and of course I will. You can capture family groups in 5-8 shots, keeping it short so that no one gets fed up, leaving you lots of time to be with your guests. Beautiful couple shots can be captured in a natural way by us sneaking off for 15 minutes and taking a walk around your gorgeous venue. As this style captures the day as it happens, it means time is no time is wasted setting up posed shots and you are present for every part of your wedding- you want to eat your canopies and drink champagne right?! A guest approached me recently at a wedding and told me he had been watching me work and loved my approach. He said I was unobtrusive but everywhere! He told me that at a wedding last year, the photographer had captured an image of him & his Grandad laughing together. He welled up when he told me this, he had recently lost his Grandad and this image had become a favourite, as the photograph had captured his true personality. Reportage style is all about the people- this is what photographs are all about and it is why I love what I do! If you would like to book a session or have any questions please give me a call or drop me an email. I look forward to hearing from you.
