Your Wedding is so much more than ‘I Do’
Getting married and arranging your Big Day is an awesome event - or so it should be – but it can be difficult to know where to start. It is all too easy to get caught up in the mayhem that often surrounds weddings. For many people – the ceremony is way down the list of priorities (eek says this Celebrant!) Sadly – the wedding ceremony which should be the most important part of your day and the reason your guests join you to celebrate– is often overlooked!
What is A Celebrant?
By now you have read the word ‘Celebrant’ and may have done a double take. A What?
Put simply – a Celebrant is someone who officiates your wedding ceremony in a location of your choice. You’ve seen all the lovely blogs about ceremonies in private gardens, beach weddings, festival weddings, woodland weddings, tipi, yurt or marquee weddings – well I can pretty much assure you that if those fun and awe-inspiring ceremonies took place in England and Wales –they have all been conducted by a Celebrant!
Personalise Your Wedding
So if you are looking for a venue with a difference, and you want your day to reflect your style and personalities, that’s where a Celebrant can help. Please read on….
To be legally married there are of course some basic legal paperwork requirements that need to take place in front of a Registrar at a suitably licensed venue (it takes about 15 minutes and costs approximately £140); but did you know that you can hold your actual ceremony including the exchange of personal vows and rings, at a completely different time and place?
Why use a Celebrant?
Your venue isn’t licensed
Not all venues are licensed for civil weddings, or if they are – you might prefer one of the outdoor spots in their beautiful gardens, or you might have got married abroad and want a blessing in front of friends and family.
Make it about you
Wedding ceremonies can be thought of as boring, awkward & repetitious. Why? Because with the exception of your readings (if permitted by the Registrar) your guests have heard it all before– it’s the same standard script for the each couple. But you aren’t the same as every other couple! You are unique with a love story all of your own to tell – let’s share it and include elements that represent the two of you. Is it a formal affair or a relaxed informal style that you want?
Make your guests an active part of your day and make it memorable for everyone. How about a Pebble Ceremony, a guest promise, a sing-a-long, a ring blessing, a ribbon ceremony? There are plenty to choose from and your Celebrant will be able to give you some ideas.
Are there different types of Celebrants?
Yes. You get Humanist Celebrants (who will include no religion at all), Alternative Celebrants (think Steam Punk, Gothic), Civil & Independent Celebrants. The last category will generally include any content (religious or not)and traditions that you want to, so it is important to ask the right questions to make sure that you get the right Celebrant for you.
What are you waiting for? For a ceremony with a difference – go Celebrant!
